WHO AND WHY

WHO

“Vanessa, Pablo and Juan worked together for several years in the organic agriculture industry, managing several greenhouses in Grao, Asturias. In 2016 they decided to change industries, while remaining committed to the ideals of organic agriculture. They got in contact with Ángel, who had recently returned from working at a brewery in Germany. Together, they started their co-operative organic brewery, Asgaya”

The Asgaya brewery began in a home kitchen, with a 25l. pot. Little by little, the team improved their skills, recipes, and equipment, and eventually relocated the brewery to the La Cardosa industrial park in Grao. The Asgaya co-operative organic brewery was established, with the first bottle of Asgaya produced by the end of 2016.

Asgaya has since continued to develop new beer recipes, and improve the quality and sophistication of the brewery. Asgaya has also taken advantage of the availability of new sources of organic ingredients, driven by the popularity of organic and craft beers with the drinking public. Asgaya has sourced ingredients from new organic malting factories, and also from locally planted organic hops fields. The Asgaya team is excited to learn, innovate, and improve their brewing techniques to continue to enthusiastically share their passion for organic craft beer.

WHY

Asgaya was started by four young entrepreneurs living in rural Spain who wanted to create an opportunity for themselves, instead of leaving their homes for work in a city.

The team always knew that they wanted to work in an environmentally responsible and sustainable manner, using organic ingredients that were locally sourced. Asgaya sources its ingredients from the closest organic producers;

most of the hops and malt are sourced within 100km of the factory.

Asgaya is certified by the EU Ecolabel, a European Commission label for environmental excellence designating a product that meets high environmental standards throughout its life-cycle.
